Saturday’s are for the boys. But why not Friday & Sunday too?

Get away to a place where the birdies chirp in the trees and chip on the greens, time is well spent and there’s always something curious to discover.

Friday

Dinner at Redneck Gourmet

Redneck Gourmet is true to its name: good eats without pretentiousness. With must-order local fare like Fried Green Tomatoes and a few new spins on Georgia classics, there’s no mistaking it: you’re in the South. We suggest the Fried Pickles and their Redneck Caviar as your pre-game choice before your entree’s. And before you wander too far off, pay a visit to Below the Neck, a full-service bar located just below the restaurant.

Another option is just down the street. The Cellar’s casual venue, The Bays features a large bar, two patios and plenty of games (Giant Jenga, anyone?) and space to sit back and relax. Live music is a staple here so check their website to see who’s playing.

After Dinner: Line Creek Brewing Co.

If cold ones are what you are seeking, head on over to Line Creek Brewing Co. to throw a few brews back with the boys. Specializing in high gravity and barrel-aged beers, Line Creek boasts 24 craft drafts. Can’t decide on just one?

Start with a flight to get the good times flowing.

Line Creek has a calendar full of special events, visiting food trucks and live music. Check it out on their website to get the full pour on what’s coming out.

Saturday

Breakfast at Christy’s Cafe

A trip to Newnan isn’t complete without indulging in a hearty breakfast. This local favorite offers all the classic dishes, but what truly sets it apart is that breakfast is served all day!

From biscuits and gravy to omelets and skillets, there’s something to satisfy every craving.

Morning Activity: Golf at Summer Grove Golf Club

After breakfast, get in a quick nine or play the whole course at Summer Grove Golf Club. This 18-hole, par 72 championship course stretches to 6,954 yards from the back tees. With five places to swing your shot, you’ll find the perfect level of challenge for your game.

This beautifully designed course is open to the public; however, you will need to book a tee time in advance.

Lunch at Matt’s Smalltown Pizza

Fuel up with a pie from Senoia staple, Matt’s Smalltown Pizza. Fresh dough made daily is topped with 100% all-natural, whole milk mozzarella and your choice of 31 toppings. While you can’t go wrong with a classic cheese and pep’, locals and visitors alike rave about the Buffalo Chicken Pizza.

Not feelin’ cheesy? Wing it instead with an order of 6-100 flats and drumsticks. They have 11 flavor options, including all the classics, but when in Georgia, you gotta go with Lemon Pepper.

Afternoon Activity: The Walking Dead Tour of Senoia

Senoia, or rather, Woodbury, as it’s known in The Walking Dead, has been a primary filming location for the show since the series’ third season. Get a look behind the scenes with a tour around downtown Senoia. You’ll see iconic locations such as the Alexandria Safe-Zone, The Governor’s Residence and the Train Tracks.

Self-guided tours are available, but we highly recommend guided tours as many guides have behind-the-scenes connections to the show.

Dinner at Nic & Norman’s

Feast like the undead at Nic & Norman’s, a fan and foodie favorite co-owned by The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus and producer Greg Nicotero. There’s something for everyone on this all-American menu, including gourmet burgers, steaks and salads. Meat-lovers will love the BBQ filled Pork Sliders.

Looking for plant-based protein Opt for Norman’s Pick, an Impossible brand plant-based patty topped with a fried egg and dressed with beets, avocado, spinach and soy ginger sauce.

After Dinner: HOP-fully Sipping on IPAs

Nestled in the heart of downtown Senoia, Pearl & Pine Brewery and Senoia Beer Co. offer a delightful brewery experience just a short stroll apart. Pearl & Pine charms visitors with its rustic ambiance and a rotating selection of innovative brews that celebrate local flavors. Just across the street, Senoia Beer Co. boasts a vibrant atmosphere with its spacious taproom and a lineup of refreshing ales that pay homage to Southern brewing traditions.

Whether you’re savoring a hop-forward IPA at Pearl & Pine or enjoying a crisp lager at Senoia Beer Co., this beer-filled adventure promises a memorable taste of the local craft scene!

Sunday

Breakfast at Leaf and Bean Newnan

Rise and shine! Fuel up for your day at Leaf and Bean, a relaxed café with a seriously stacked menu, right in the heart of Downtown Newnan. Regale last night’s revelries while you dig into scrambled eggs with diced onions, peppers, tomatoes and shredded cheddar cheese.

Just rolling through? The breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito are both great on the go.

Late Morning Activity: Visit to Chattahoochee Bend State Park

Lace up your hiking boots or maybe just your sneakers. Chattahoochee Bend State Park has a variety of trails to challenge seasoned hikers and those seeking a leisurely escape into nature. As one of Georgia’s largest state parks, Chattahoochee Bend boasts 2,910 acres of forest, much of which has been left in its natural state, and a whopping five miles of frontage alongside the Chattahoochee.

A boat ramp offers easy access to the water for those who packed their paddles and poles.

Lunch at Meat N’ Greet

Wrap up your weekend with the best. Winner of Newnan-Coweta Magazine’s Best of Coweta Award for six years running, Meat N’ Greet is a meat lover’s paradise. Their menu highlights…ten unique burgers stacked with all the fixins upon their signature MNG patties, made from a blend of chuck, brisket and short rib. If you’re feeling more like a frank, go with The Heavy Hitter, a 100% All-Natural Angus Beef hot dog topped with bacon jam, chili-mayo and jalapeños.

Wash it all down with a bourbon flight.

This one’s for the girls!

Get away to a place where you don’t need to speak français to order authentic French cuisine, every scene is a photo-op and memories are shaped like red Georgia clay. Coweta County is curiously delightful for a weekend with friends.

Friday

Dinner at The Cellar & The Bays

Kick off the weekend with dinner at The Cellar, a cozy yet elegant restaurant known for its upscale Southern fare. The Fried Pickles with curried mustard are quite a big “dill,” so we recommend starting there. For your entrée, the Cellar Shrimp and Grits with tasso cream sauce and the Pan-Seared Catfish are local favorites. If you’re craving more turf than surf, you cannot go wrong with the Cellar Signature Ribeye. But no matter what you select, their extensive wine selection will provide the perfect pairing for any dish.

After dinner, visit The Cellar’s casual venue, The Bays. With a large bar, two patios and plenty of games (Giant Jenga, anyone?), there’s abundant space to sit back and catch up with your gal pals. Live music is a staple here so check their website to see who’s playing.

Cocktails at The Pharmacy

Wind down the evening with a nightcap at Newnan’s very own speakeasy. Just steps from The Cellar and The Bay, The Pharmacy is a secret worth sharing. It’s sultry ambiance, jazzy acoustics and craft cocktails harken back to the Prohibition Era.

Fortunately, no laws need to be broken in order to have a good time.

Saturday

Breakfast at Brown St. Bodega

What’s cookin? Something really yummy lookin’. Brown St. Bodega is an especially tasty way to start the day. They have all your breakfast faves (bacon, egg and cheese biscuit, anyone?) plus some exciting new flavs (ahem, lavender lemon bread & almond biscotti).

And don’t you worry, there’s no need to swing through Starbies. They’ve got coffee, too, and plenty of it!

Morning Activity: Pottery at Mudhaven Pottery Studio

Put a creative spin on your weekend by signing up for a pottery workshop at Mudhaven Pottery Studio. Just bring yourself and your friends: the workshop includes all the supplies you’ll need to learn basic wheel-throwing techniques and create up to three pieces (Patrick Swayze not included). Once you’ve crafted your masterpiece, select your favorite glaze color and Mudhaven will take care of the rest.

Please note: Pottery pieces will be ready for pickup in 6-8 weeks, just in time for your next girls’ trip!

Lunch at Lisa’s Crêperie

Cue the crêpes at Lisa’s Crêperie. This French café serves up authentic crêpes that we can only describe as tres bien! Enjoy classic combos like peanut butter and banana or a Caprese crêpe filled with tomatoes, goat cheese, spinach, pesto and a balsamic glaze.

Whether you prefer savory or need to satisfy your sweet tooth, there’s a crêpe for every occasion.

Afternoon Activity: The Walking Dead Tour of Senoia

Senoia, or rather, Woodbury, as it’s known in The Walking Dead, has been a primary filming location for the show since the series’ third season. Peer behind the scenes with a guided tour around downtown Senoia. You’ll see iconic locales like the Alexandria Safe-Zone, The Governor’s Residence and the Train Tracks.

Many guides have worked as extras or crew members on set; their first-hand stories liven up this undead tour to frightening levels of fun!

Dinner at Bistro Hilary

Toast to your last night together at Bistro Hilary, a sophisticated dining spot offering French-inspired cuisine. You’ll be transported to Paris when you taste a bite of Coquilles St. Jacques and cut into a plate of beef bourguignon. For dessert, you simply must try the chocolate mousse with a scoop of the ice cream du jour.

There isn’t a bad seat in the house, but the front patio is especially Instagrammable

Sunday

Brunch at Senoia Coffee & Cafe

This charming café nestled in the heart of Senoia has everything to start your morning off right. Savory breakfast lovers will enjoy the avocado toast and quiche. If you’re apt to wake up with a sweet tooth, you can’t miss out on the peanut butter banana toast and a big, fluffy cinnamon roll. Or order the waffles and bacon for the best of both worlds!

Let’s not forget plenty of freshly brewed coffee, made just as you like it.

Late Morning Activity: Shopping in Senoia and Newnan

After brunch, spend the afternoon in downtown Senoia, then head over to Newnan for some of the best local shopping this side of Atlanta. Boutiques and specialty stores dot the streets of both downtowns and they’re all just so gosh darn charming.

Who says you need just one souvenir anyway? We hope you packed an extra suitcase!

Fall in love with Coweta!

Date Night Ideas in Coweta County

From young love to longtime love birds, Coweta County is the perfect setting for a date with your sweetie. Whether you are looking to cozy up next to the candlelight or brew up some playful competition, you’re sure to be charmed by the ambiance just as much as the company.

Bistro Hilary

Nestled in downtown Senoia, this charming bistro sources fresh ingredients from local farmers to bring French savory and sweet delights to the South. Furnished with two patios (with a roaring fireplace for those chilly nights) and ample indoor seating, every seat is the most coveted table in the house.

Daytime Date Idea: Dinner is delectable, but for a more relaxed daytime vibe, brunch is a must!

The Cellar

Come for the menu, stay for the venue! Where fine dining meets live music, you won’t have to travel far to enjoy dinner and a show. Keeping it casual? Check out The Bays from Tuesday through Saturday for a backyard vibe that doesn’t compromise quality or exceptional service.

Musical Moments: Enjoy live music every Wednesday, Thursday and weekends. Keep an eye on The Cellar’s Facebook page for the lineup.

Black Bear Axe Throwing

If you don’t want to get the axe, bring your date to this all-inclusive axe-throwing and splatter studio. Compete for a bullseye in any of the outdoor throwing lanes–it’s harder than it looks! Or channel your inner Pollock as paint flies onto your canvas in the splatter room. Once you’ve finished tossing the hatchet, cozy up next to the fire pit or get competitive in cornhole.

Dress Code Deets: You may want to dress to impress but we recommend opting for comfort on this one! Closed-toed shoes are required to protect those piggies!

Abide Brewing

Calling all craft beer connoisseurs! This brewery comes recommended by locals and tourists alike. Saddle up to the bar to tip back a cold one or enjoy the sunshine on the outdoor patio. With a rotation of easygoing entertainment and tasty food trucks, there is always something new to see and savor at Abide.

Weekday Wooing: Who says date nights are just for weekends? Pay a visit and pour a pint mid-week to enjoy Bingo Monday and cornhole Thursday!

Chattahoochee Bend State Park

If your heart wasn’t already aflutter, get it pumping with an active date to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. With five miles of scenic river frontage, 12 miles of hiking trails, or four miles of biking trails, the only sight more beautiful than these picture-perfect views is your date. There are plenty of on-site amenities, from picnic shelters to cabin, tent, trailer, RV and hike/paddle-in campsites to turn daytime fun into an overnight retreat.

Pack a Snack: Long trails will sure work up an appetite! Grab some granola bars, or better yet a picnic spread, so that hanger doesn’t dampen your date.

For a celebration of your weekend, stop by during Sunday brunch for a Belgian waffle with strawberry maple compote or a farm egg frittata.

Nic & Norman’s

The Walking Dead alumni Norman Reedus and Greg Nicotero opened this neighborhood eatery in the heart of Senoia, a major filming location for their hit show, in 2016. Since then, it’s become a local favorite hangout known for serving gourmet burgers and other pub favorites like brisket nachos and flatbreads. For a full homestyle meal, order the Fried Chicken Pot Pie, Coca-Cola Braised Pork Shank with mashed potatoes and Cajun cream corn, or Homestyle Meatloaf.

Head to The Cellar for a fine dining meal of hand-cut steak or fresh seafood paired with a glass of bubbly to toast with. For a great place to unwind on a Friday night, head to The Bays, where you can enjoy a menu of chef-driven but familiar eats, plus a huge bar, two patios, live entertainment, and games like giant Jenga, cornhole, and shuffleboard. It’s a two-sided, one-stop shop for all things delicious! Crowd favorites include sandwiches like the classic Philly cheesesteak and a chicken salad melt. There’s also an entire section of the menu dedicated to fancified hot dogs. No matter what you order, be sure to include a side of the house specialty Redneck Caviar.

Lisa’s Creperie

You don’t have to travel to France to get an authentic taste of the City of Love. At Lisa’s Creperie, every paper-thin pastry is filled with fresh ingredients ranging from locally grown produce and herbs to cheese imported straight from France. Savory options include everything from the classic American combo of bacon, egg, and cheese to a delightful mix of ham, Swiss, gruyere, goat cheese, pesto, and balsamic glaze. For those with a sweet tooth, try the cinnamon sugar with banana and whipped cream or one stuffed with Nutella.

Mess Hall on Main St

This micro food hall located in the heart of historic downtown Senoia has a little of something for everyone. There’s locally roasted coffee from Senoia Coffee, as well as charcuterie, sushi, hibachi, and even wine.

Curious Kitchen and Bar

Since opening in 2020, this creative restaurant has wowed diners with its menu of made-from-scratch dishes and innovative cocktails. Start dinner at this modern but casual eatery with tasty creations like Butter Chicken Dip, a riff on the classic Indian dish, and Crab Rangoon Roll filled with surimi crab, loaded cream cheese, and Calabrian chili honey. Then, choose between entrees like Steak Frites, Fish & Chips, and Burrata Spaghetti.

Il Porto di Venezia

Find yourself transported halfway across the world to Venice with every bite that crosses your lips at Il Porto di Venezia. The menu features a selection of traditional Italian recipes with a major emphasis on seafood and grilled dishes that are often served on the canals. Try the fresh lobster ravioli, pistachio crusted lamb rack, or classic eggplant parmigiana. End your meal with a cappuccino and dessert like tiramisu, panna cotta, or limoncello cake.

La Casa del Taco

For truly epic tacos, La Casa del Taco fits the bill. You can’t go wrong with any of this food truck’s offerings, but the Birria Tacos are quickly gaining notoriety among those who love authentic, flavor-packed Mexican food. Pair with a glass bottle of soda and the hot sauce of your choice, and you’re in a prime position for a memorable meal. Whether you decide to take your tacos to go or you prefer to park yourself at the adjoining patio area for live music and outdoor games, La Casa del Taco’s offerings are designed for people who appreciate good food and good times.

The Mad Mexican

Find fusion fare at The Mad Mexican, a downtown Newnan restaurant that blends Southern soul food with cuisine from South of the border. Tacos are filled with pork and pico de gallo but also catfish and jalapeno slaw. The Soul quesadilla features your choice of meat and cheese, plus a healthy serving of Southern-style collard greens. For a true mashup, try the Mad Mexican Hot Dog, an all-beef flash-fried hot dog topped with black bean and corn salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and Monterey jack cheese. Need another reason to visit? Stay tuned because soon the back of this beloved restaurant will feature craft cocktails from a new speakeasy called The Pharmacy. Talk about a perfect blend of all the best things in life!

The Perfect Vibe for Every Bride

Dreams become reality

Every bride dreams of having a wedding fit for the movies, and in our gorgeous county, that dream can easily become a reality. Just 30 minutes south of Atlanta, Coweta County is full of gorgeous venues that are ready to provide the perfect backdrop for weddings of all styles. And with its proximity to the Atlanta airport, it’s easy for friends and family from all over the country to make the journey and join the celebrations.

From traditional brides seeking a fairytale ceremony and reception to eclectic couples looking to make their day entirely their own, Newnan-Coweta has a venue to fit every personality and every couple. As the filming location for AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead, super fans can even plan their own Walking Dead-themed ceremony at some of the show’s most iconic filming locations in Senoia. Here are a few stellar wedding venues in Newnan-Coweta for every type of bride.

For the Understated Bride

There’s something timeless and sentimental about a courthouse wedding. For the understated bride who wants to let her love speak for itself, there’s no better place to swap vows than the Historic Coweta County Courthouse. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1904 Classic Revival Courthouse anchors the town square. Its iconic 100-foot copper-covered dome and stately white columns are a great backdrop for just-married portraits, and there’s no need for wedding bells. The courthouse’s four-face clock tower chimes every hour—talk about a way to ring in your matrimony.

For the Southern Romantic Bride

It doesn’t get much sweeter or more Southern than the gorgeous gardens and stunning two-story house of Lillian Gardens. With its wrought-iron railing and double-decker porches, the venue at Lilian Gardens seems torn straight from the pages of Gone with the Wind. Inside, you’ll find warm lighting, original wood floors, classic furniture, and a neutral color palette to complement your flowers and wedding décor. The courtyard and gardens feature luscious flowering plants, bubbling fountains, twinkle lights, and a breathtaking gazebo. Every last detail is designed to enchant.

For the Modern Bride

Brides who love modern aesthetics will fall for the ceremony and reception options at Murphy Lane. Marvel in the beauty of 88 acres of wide-open spaces and scenic farmland. The restored barn is the ideal place to dance the night away with loved ones, and in temperate weather, your guests will love exploring the grounds as they toast to your nuptials and celebrate your marriage. Packages range from the Murphy Lane Micro-Wedding Package for intimate weddings to the Murphy Lane All-Inclusive Wedding Package, which includes everything you need for the blowout bash of a lifetime.

For the Boho Bride

Brides who enjoy spending their free time in the great outdoors will appreciate the rolling hills and pastoral views at Vinewood Stables. Once a historic homestead and horse barn, Vinewood Stables is now fully equipped as a full-service wedding venue. The Main House is large enough to house the wedding party while getting ready, but the Wedding Pavilion is what makes this venue so special. A covered wood-and-stone platform provides the perfect backdrop for you to say your vows. Beyond lies an incredible view of hillsides and rolling pastures. A tree canopy provides ample shade for your guests, but the sunlight seeping in through the foliage creates an absolutely stunning effect.

For the Eclectic Bride

The original passenger depot for the Atlanta & Westpoint Railroad has now been transformed into an intimate and charming wedding venue. With its cozy corners, exposed brick walls, and warm chandelier lighting, this venue is for the bride who wants an intimate party with her closest friends and family. Snap some pictures on the old boarding platform and enjoy the greenspace outside the depot’s double doors.

For the Wistful Bride

Wistful brides will love the ethereal vibe inside the barn at Macedonia Hills. The former horse ranch and barn is situated near the highest point in Coweta County. Brides can choose to hold their ceremonies outdoors on the upper bank, near a waterfall feature, or outside the barn. But for the dreamy bride on her big day, nothing compares to the high vaulted ceiling inside the barn and the exposed wood beams that run along it. Add simple flowers or greenery and gold or brass accents, and the ideal fairytale look is easy to achieve.

For the “Until Death Do Us Part” Bride

It may not be conventional, but we guarantee having a Walking Dead wedding in Senoia will be memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. The show’s main filming location, fans can have their wedding in the very same gazebo on Main Street that was part of the Woodbury set and overlooks the what was once the Alexandria set. They can also have it on the wooden bridge over the train tracks where Maggie and Glen were reunited. For something a little less obvious, choose the Veranda B&B where many of the show’s stars have stayed during filming. Want to take it to the next level? Hire zombies to complete the experience and put a little extra meaning behind the phrase, “until death do us part.”

Start Your Forever Amongst All Our Delightful Possibilities

No matter what you envision for your big day, Coweta County promises the perfect venue for you to start you forever. To see what else you, your wedding party, and all your guests can get up to while you’re here, be sure to click here.

Discover your quirkyness! (and curious)

Step outside your comfort zone

If you’re in a funk when it comes to planning weekend fun, don’t waste another second heading to the same old brewery or park for the umpteenth time. In Coweta County, every day’s an adventure and you’ll never run into a shortage of out-of-the-box activities to delight the entire family. From trying out new sports like pickleball and disc golf to touring a film set or hitting the raceway, the sky’s the limit. Ready to shake up your routine? Plan a weekend trip to Coweta county and consider these quirky-cool places to buck tradition and make some memories.

Barbie Beach

OK, so it’s not an actual beach, but we guarantee you’ll get a kick out of this roadside attraction built by Steve and Linda Quick. The longtime residents of Turin, Georgia, created a 4-foot-by-6-foot sandy display in their front yard, where they frequently rearrange dozens of Barbies in scenes to match current events like the Final Four playoffs, Olympics, and the Royal Wedding. With the new Barbie movie coming out, there’s no better time to see what Barbie’s doing in Coweta County (spoiler alert: she might just be a zombie).

Speed to the Senoia Raceway

Those with a need for speed can make a mad dash to the Senoia Raceway to see a number of races from motocross to sprint cars. Events, shows, and races are scheduled year-round (weather permitting), so you’ll always have something to see. Buy seats in the grandstands or, if you’re lucky, you can grab one of the highly-coveted pit passes or trackside parking spots —there’s not a bad view in the house.

Play a Round of Disc Golf

The 54-acre Hunter Complex in Sharpsburg is a popular spot for all kinds of sports, activities, and recreation, but the real star is the disc golf course. The complex’s newest addition features 18 holes, professionally designed for the most serious disc golfers to delve into. Cowetan Kevin McCoy is a world-champion disc golfer and a course designer who now works for Innova Disc Golf. If you need more disc golf action, be sure to check out the 9-hole course at the Temple Ave. Complex.

Join the Pickleball Madness

If you live just about anywhere in the U.S., chances are you’ve heard the term pickleball come up more than once over the past few years. Maybe it’s a neighbor who took up the sport or grandparents who play with their church group, but everywhere you look, pickleball is taking off. See what all the fuss is about at The HOP (House of Pickleball). The massive facility with 15 courts hosts free Pickleball 101 clinics where new players of all ages can come, learn, and leave with a new favorite activity.

Take a “Walking Dead” Tour

For fans of the hit AMC zombie show “The Walking Dead,” or just those curious about how movie and TV magic comes together, Coweta County is your spot. The show was filmed exclusively in Georgia, so there are sites all over the area where certain scenes or seasons were filmed. For a guided tour with fun facts about the show and the process of filming it, book with either of our film tour groups. These will take you around Senoia (which is home to both Alexandria and Woodbury on the show) on foot, golf cart, or by van to see all of the major sites. Be sure to stop into the Woodbury Shoppe, where you can pick up clothing, gifts, and other collectibles all related to the show.

Sample Eclectic Eats

You’ll find friendly faces, plenty of stories, and delicious homestyle eats at Redneck Gourmet. The Newnan favorite is known for its hearty breakfast and huge choice of sandwiches, burgers, and hot dogs for lunch and dinner. We recommend the fried pickles and redneck caviar with any meal. Another great place to eat with an interesting story is Nic & Norman’s Restaurant, a modern American spot opened by none other than Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon in “The Walking Dead”) and Greg Nicotero, the lead director and executive producer of the smash hit show. The Senoia location is known for great burgers, pizza, and a fun brunch menu.

Eclectic Adventures Await

Any trip to these iconic Coweta oddities ensures awesome memories you’ll be talking about for years to come. Make a weekend of it in one or all of our seven communities and experience Southern charm, cinematic wonder, and tasty local cuisine at every turn.

Click here to plan your escape today.

Morning

Newnan

Start your morning at Leaf & Bean, a cozy coffee shop on the square offering tasty breakfast options made with local ingredients. (Pro tip: Wash down your meal with one of their rotating lemonade flavors; the lavender is a big hit.)

Next, head to the Historic Coweta County Courthouse, a gorgeous 1904 Classic Revival building anchoring the town square. If court is in session, the courtrooms and jury rooms are off limits, but the building houses historic imagery and salvaged pieces from the 2010 restoration worth checking out.

Spend the rest of the morning wandering around the picturesque downtown and popping into shops and boutiques lining the square, including Red Letter Merchant, a unique vintage clothing store; Gillyweeds gift shop; and Newnan Mercantile, a home goods hotspot.

Lunch

Newnan

Refuel at The Oink Joint, a beloved barbecue spot. Opt for a Southern classic, such as a pulled pork sandwich or brisket plate, or try some fusion favorites, including BBQ nachos and the Kogi or fried chicken tacos.

Detour: Moreland

Drive south to the Moreland Hometown Heritage Museum, a tribute to Lewis Grizzard, the famous Southern writer and humorist. The museum features photos and memorabilia from his childhood in Moreland and clippings from his time as an Atlanta Journal-Constitution columnist.

Afternoon

Take A Trip Through Historic Coweta County!

Historic Places

Coweta County’s rich heritage dates back nearly 200 years, when the area opened for settlement in 1827 following Georgia’s fifth Land Lottery. Many early residents were successful farmers, merchants, and politicians, and their grand homes and businesses stood as testaments to their prosperity. Today the preservation of these structures—representing a variety of architectural styles ranging from Federal and Gothic Revival to Queen Anne and Victorian—is an integral part of the county’s focus.

The City of Newnan boasts six districts with a National Register of Historic Places designation, and locals and visitors alike can enjoy selfguided tours. The best place to begin is the Downtown Historic District, anchored by the neo-Greek Revival courthouse designed by renowned architect James W. Golucke. This area also includes the Carnegie Library, McRitchie- Hollis Museum, Murray Warehouse Block, Reese Opera House, Virginia House Hotel, and the old train depot. Nearby is Oak Hill Cemetery, the final resting place of many of the city’s most prominent citizens as well as more than 250 Confederate soldiers.

Industrial Roots

The residential Cole Town Historic District developed around the R.D. Cole Company, a once-prosperous business that produced millwork, machinery, and water towers. Many homes here display ornate railings, decorative pilasters, and intricately carved moldings that reflect the company’s fine architectural woodwork.

The College-Temple Historic District is a classic example of a well-planned neighborhood, with parks, churches, schools, and tree-lined streets. This area features magnificent homes with a wide range of architectural styles as well as the Male Academy, formerly a boys’ college preparatory school that now serves as a children’s museum, and two houses that were part of College Temple, a private school for girls.

In contrast to the intentional layouts of other districts, the Greenville-LaGrange Historic District developed along two major highways and includes both older and newer homes. The antebellum house located at 87 LaGrange Street served as Confederate headquarters during the Battle of Brown’s Mill.

Mills & Movie Magic

The Newnan Cotton Mill and Mill Village Historic District is representative of early 20th-century Georgia mill communities. The mill, now converted into loft apartments, was once a bustling center of commerce. The adjacent village provided housing for workers.

As its name implies, Platinum Point Historic District is a collection of homes built by some of Newnan’s wealthiest citizens. This district, which showcases a variety of Revival-style architecture, emerged with the prevalence of automobiles as is evidenced by the many outbuildings that were used as garages.

A few miles down the road from Newnan is the tiny town of Senoia, a picturesque community that has served as a backdrop to numerous films and television shows. With its own vast collection of architectural treasures, much of the town comprises a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.

Diverse Architecture

Begin the self-guided tour at the Senoia Welcome Center on Main Street. It includes more than 45 homes and several churches, with structures encompassing such diverse styles as Gabled Ell, Neo-Classical, New South Cottage, Saddlebag, and Victorian Gothic. Particularly noteworthy is the 1906 Greek Revival mansion on Seavy Street that operates as The Veranda Historic Bed & Breakfast Inn. Notable guests here included author Margaret Mitchell, who interviewed Confederate veterans at the inn for her epic novel Gone with the Wind.

Located a short distance from downtown is the Senoia Area Historical Society Museum. Housed in the 1870 Carmichael home at 6 Couch Street, the museum is filled with artifacts that bring to life the story of Senoia and is open on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Walk your way through Senoia’s history when you take part in Senoia Area Historical Society’s Historic Walking Tour. This activity is a self-guided, audio experience priced at $6.99. Download the app and enjoy the 60-90 minute walking tour or stroll through Senoia’s Main Street in between stops for a full day of fun.

A highlight of the holiday season is the Candlelight Tour of Homes, which offers an inside view of the town’s storied past. Sponsored by the Senoia Downtown Development Authority, the tour is held in early December.

We’re Unlike Any Other County!

1. Pick out some produce at the Senoia Farmers Market

Senoia comes alive every Saturday at this popular market. Farmers sell seasonal fruits and veggies, while local artisans set up shop with everything from jewelry to homemade soap to hot sauce. Be sure to visit when live bands are on the schedule.

2. Check out the Historic Coweta County Courthouse

With a copper dome rising 100 feet above street level, this 1904 Classic Revival building towers above Newnan’s town square, but it also has some dark history: It held the famous 1948 Murder in Coweta County trial—subject of several podcasts and a movie.

3. Grab a Gourmet Bite at Brown St. Bodega

Discover the magic of transforming simple, high-quality ingredients into unforgettable experiences. At Brown St. Bodega, you’ll find expertly crafted coffee, a curated selection of wines, wholesome meals, and delectable desserts. Whether you’re dining in or picking up provisions to cook at home, this is where everyday food becomes extraordinary.

4. Enjoy the eggs-ellent Eggs Dijon at Bistro Hilary

Designed to look like a French bistro, this upscale Senoia dining spot has a menu full of tempting plates, but the crispy Eggs Dijon is a crowd pleaser. Pair the savory appetizer with a Paris-themed cocktail on the front or back patio.

5. View the latest display at Barbie Beach

Stop by this unique highway attraction in Turin to see an assortment of Barbies and Kens posed in different arrangements often based on current events. Steve and Linda Quick have kept locals and roadtrippers entertained with the whimsical displays since their first during the 2006 Winter Olympics.

6. Relish the fried pickles at Redneck Gourmet

One of the oldest restaurants in Newnan, this beloved spot serves up plenty of crave-worthy dishes, including the Redneck Burger topped with bacon and their famous fried green tomatoes, but the fried pickles with ranch are a tried-and-true staple.

7. Feel a spiritual presence at Bonnie Castle

Built in 1896, this Victorian-era mansion has been the center of paranormal activity in Grantville for decades. Among the sightings are a ghost named Mary and a spectral cat. Today, you can book a stay in one of the inn’s rooms through Airbnb and experience the haunted vibe for yourself.

8. Try the latest flavor at Rock Salt Milk Bar

Nearly everything is made inhouse at this Newnan ice cream shop, and flavors frequently rotate based on the season. Fresh peach and blueberry lemon lavender are popular in summer, while white chocolate peppermint and gingersnap cheesecake are winter winners.

9. Kayak down the Chattahoochee River

The 2,910-acre Chattahoochee Bend State Park is one of the largest state parks in Georgia and provides an ideal spot for kayaking. After a day of paddling, rent a nearby cottage or campsite to relax amid the forest’s natural beauty.

10. Meander around historic neighborhoods

Nicknamed the “City of Homes,” Newnan has six districts listed on the National Historic Registry. Be sure to check out 167 LaGrange Street, one of the oldest standing homes in the city built circa 1828, as well as 155 Greenville Street, which has been featured in many shows and movies.
